In Britain: hasznos szófordulatok ~ ANGOL Szókincs

There are occasions when foreign visitors to Britain are asked to fill in forms and give their personal details while they are staying in England. Your first name and family name, your address, the date and place of your birth, etc. are called your personal details or personal particulars.

Whenever you meet English people, it's important to know how to use the most common greetings and politeness phrases.
  • Never use "How do you do" as a greeting. This is only said when you are introduced to someone.
  • Say "Hello", "Good morning", "Good afternoon" or "Good evening" when you meet someone, and "Goodbye",  "Bye-bye".
  • Say "Good night" when you meet someone for the last time on that day, or "See you later", "See you soon", or just "See you" if you know him well and expect to see him soon.
  • Say "Pardon" when you don't understand someone clearly. You will have to use this phrase quite often when you first arrive.
  • Say "Sorry", or "I'm sorry" when you'd like to apologize for something you've done wrong, and
  • "Excuse mewhen you are interrupting someone or when you're asking for a favour or some information.
  • Say "Not at all", or "That's quite all right", in response to "Thank you", but remember that it's not rude to say nothing at all.
